⑤ 2x Daily Entrepreneur Ideas: America desperately needs a new sauna experience | The portable hot and cold sauna
Over the course of my career in a desk job, I’ve dreamt of MANY ideas. In fact, you’re seeing them all here. The one that really grabbed me, but that I was completely incapable of building, was building a DIY portable sauna. Let’s just say that while I did quit my day job, I am better off having a keyboard as a tool over anything else. Hopefully you, the entrepreneur, are more handy than I am with tools and can start on this business idea.
We go for niche ideas here.
It’s a competitive world out there, but being on the fringe and being unconventional gives us the opportunity to jump on niche trends, which is what we aim for, as entrepreneurs. We aim to build things. DIY startups are the name of the game for anyone with access to the internet.
So, I give you this new idea for a startup.
Introducing: The Portable Sauna Experience
Yes, most of us have seen the portable sauna already. Do you know what I never see? The portable sauna, with a cold plunge pool.
I hope you can see my excitement in this. Once you experience the plunge pool after a hot cycle, it’s hard to go back to a regular sauna. This is why I’d like to pitch this idea to you, who can subsequently pitch it to America. Not parabolic at all, are we? With this entrepreneurial niche idea, we can be!
The sauna experience hasn’t permeated American culture like it has others. Or rather, our “traditional” sauna experience is not very traditional in other cultures. While the portable sauna business is already very crowded by reputable companies, the Nordic cycle approach of hot and cold is yet to be expanded in America. Now is the time to start on your own DIY sauna.
PLEASE TELL ME IF YOU MAKE ONE. I really want one.
Relatively few saunas companies offer the hot and cold cycle (which has so many health benefits), let alone on a portable basis. It would involve the traditional sauna and an ice bath or plunge pool as well. You could get creative here. I’ve been in saunas where the source of cold water is literally a rope that dumps cold water from a bucket above you when you pull it. And honestly, it was awesome. So yeah, there’s room to try out many different entrepreneurial ideas out here for your DIY portable sauna.
Capitalizing on the trend of electricity becoming more expensive.
Opt to create a wood-burning stove-based sauna that allows for less cost when relaxing in the sauna. Create a DIY portable sauna that takes the Nordic approach. Offer it for sale and/or for rent.
Risk
This one has a little more upfront capital required. However, you could build a prototype and post it online, making it so that you can build it when it’s requested. I would definitely encourage going to one to see what the experience is like, and see if it’s something you want to pursue.
To make it more scalable, you could also publish blueprints at cost, too!

Hey, I’m Warren 👋
OS in my name means opensource, or operating system, depending on the day.
Here is the way I operate and how I write:
- Knowing myself is my number one priority. This is where I can produce the most good.
- Finding the absolute truths in things.
- Intuitively feeling vs intellectualizing.
- Making overly vague comments ( I will bore you with essays on the above, if you ask!).
- Battling narratives that keep people stuck. X person “made it,” and here is how — vs (open source part) X person “made it,” and here are the difficulties they faced to get there. I’ve gotten stuck with comparing my reality to the fictional story of how someone made it, becoming paralyzed with my reality not matching up. Let’s be open and honest.
- Pet peeve of seeing businesses / people not being genuine. Doing things for “the quick buck,” or the posturing vs. truly providing value to someone.
- And lastly, of course, sticking it to the man.
